You can pick up a spray adhesive from different craft stores in your area. Michaels etc...

The stock head liner drops because the thin layer of foam falls apart so when you remove the headliner be sure to remove the entire foam layer. It is only about 1/8 thick. This will leave a solid backing for your new headliner. I used a stiff horse hair brush so I wouldn't gouge into the backing. I have been told the spray adhesive from craft stores will fail down the road so I opted to buy the more expensive headliner adhesive. Picked up mine at Walmart. I did mine by marking the middle of the headliner down the center. Then I put a chalk line on the back of the blanket or flag if you are using that. Then roll up the blanket so the back is facing out. Now spray the first foot of the headliner and a light coat on the back of the blanket. Roll it out and continue the process keeping the two lines aligned. It is easier to do with 2 people. Definately worth it especially if you need to repair the headliner anyway. Since I used fleece blankets, they were a little heavy so I needed 2 cans of spray adhesive. You don't want to get half way thru and have to run back to the store. If you don't need it you can return it later. Remember, don't flood the headliner with too much adhesive. It will bleed thru and ruin how the headliner looks on the front. Just a solid coat will do. Good luck, post your headliners when you are done. I am thinking of buying another XJ. This one happens to be my sons. I fixed it up for him but can't stop working on it, lol.

i got the spray glue at the auto parts.. the way i did mine was i took of the roof and i had to scrub out with just a towel the old glue that was on the roof, then i passed the vacum to make sure it was all off.. next layed the fabric to measure how long it was, then little by little you start glueing and the fabric to the roof

How did you get the material to stay on the doors? And gumby i could dig that pretty original.

 

on the doors i took off what was there and filled in all the holes and low spots and then used a mix of the spray adhesive i used on the ceiling and a multi purpose glue in a bottle to attach
