if i where to do it i would find a rear axle out of a front wheel drive car and use that as the trailer axel then beef it up a bit use the same hieght spring as in your jeep to level it then the rest is pretty simple

I've have plans to do this as well. I've already got a commanche bed. Just need to wait for an opening on the welder that I use. Its currently being used on a comando frame up build up. I plan on getting rid of the stock frame and building my own. I've been thinking of using air bags for the suspenion so I can adjust each side depending on the load carried.

I have a problem there are so many amazing fabs on this site I can't decide what I want to do on my own. Everytime I get an idea i see something else that looks just as cool or better. Oh well guess I will just have to buy a cherokee for each type of fabrication I find. Now all I need is $$$

I really like the purple one pulling the back half of an XJ, but what I had thought about doing was taking it down at the firewall.
Like this - used a line pic then photo shopped it. A nice little box on the front, and a great place for a spare.

if you do it like that you will have a really high tongue weight and it would be hard to pull. you want to keep a 60/40 balance n the axle

maybe you could put another axle in front of the stock location. That would be alot of work and it would be hard to run bigger then stock tires on it.

^^ I had thought about that after I read the response, then thought about how much work it would be to fab up a steering axle and suspension and crap. Would probably be easier to hack up a 2 door and move the rear axle forward.
