Haha yeah is a 1990 I thought the hp's were in the newer ones. Aren't there hp's with bigger shafts too? Like in the later hp's? On a budget what can I do to make this axle more durable?

hp in older ones. lp started somewhere near 2000. dont know the correct year. no not all hp's came with the larger ujoints. i have not had a d30 in 4 years so i cant remember when the larger ujoints came out.

already told you what you can do on a budget. larger ujoints with shafts

Ok I was just wondering if that was it. What about running some type of soft locker? Is it strong enough as long as your easy on the pedal?

soft locker? are you talking about a lunch box locker? yes many have ran a lunch box locker in the d30. on the trail just carry a couple set of spare shafts just in case!

Yeah a lunchbox locker. I wouldn't want to put any other type in there just because auto-locking hubs. I'll probably just run it open for awhile so I don't break anything. I found a dana 44 from an xj for $150 so I think I'll buy that and lock it up and call it good. How hard is it to change the gears on the d30 and 44?

you need special tools to change out gears. i have done 2 sets and wont do it again. dont have the patience for it. check out randys ring and pinion and on their website you will find what tools are needed

Shops want bank to put install them though thats why I figure it would be cost effective to spend about $350-400 on a pair of full size axles with the 4:10 gears already.

then you will have to build them with the correct brackets. retube them to the appropriate width. need correct steering. you will spend more on full size axles them just regearing the stock

What if I don't narrow the axles and just get the ballistic mount for $116. Do you have to custom fabricate the steering or could you use the steering that is already on the axle since it's not being shortened?

Good luck finding a set for 350 to 400 bucks. A front Dana 60 with driver drop runs $900 to $1200 for one that needs rebuilding around here. That's why I went with a 44 out of a F250 but people still charge around $600+ for those.

whats mounts from ballistic? they make numerous. for under $600 you will need to rebuild it. new brakes, hubs, spindles, bearings. yes the steering will need to be changed.

do you relize ford axles are at least 5" inches longer? you will be sticking out quite far and the cops dont like that. you cant half *** a axle swap. mounts break and you are dead going down the road at 60mph

are you talking about these? http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/...it_p_1542.html

you still need upper control arm mounts. you need a truss because one of the mounts sits over the pumkin. you need a trackbar mount. its not complete that for sure. you have to figure how you are going to run your trackbar. you have to figure how you are going to run your steering. OTK or UTK. you will need hysteer arms.

its not as simple as buying these brackets and whola bolt it in. you need many more pieces. then you have to think about the rear. what spring perches are you going to use. ubolts, shock mount. and the list goes on

What's wrong with tires sticking out. I have an 80" track width. BTW my axles are 67" wms to wms and stock are 60. It all depends on the local Johny Law as to whether or not you will be harassed. Might want to check to see how much tire can stick out. Here they don't care but in some places I think an inch is about the limit. If all he wants is 33s or 35s get a HP30 out of a 96-99 and use the rear 44 and you'll be golden. It will be a lot cheaper to regear those than a swap, trust me I know from personal experience.
