What's wrong with tires sticking out. I have an 80" track width. BTW my axles are 67" wms to wms and stock are 60. It all depends on the local Johny Law as to whether or not you will be harassed. Might want to check to see how much tire can stick out. Here they don't care but in some places I think an inch is about the limit. If all he wants is 33s or 35s get a HP30 out of a 96-99 and use the rear 44 and you'll be golden. It will be a lot cheaper to regear those than a swap, trust me I know from personal experience.

No I have I just don't really care. If I get hassled with I'll just throw some ghetto flairs on. I guess I'll probably just go 44 and hp30 since I already have that. I just don't want to mess with the regear expense. And I can pick up a dana 60 rear for $150 around here and same with a 44 front. They're pretty cheap on craigslist.

the d60 will have the same spline count (30) as a d44 rear. the front 44 will need a ton of $$ and work to get it to fit on the xj.
im building a hp44 from a f150. with gears, locker, axle shafts and ujoint, steering, hubs, bearings, bracket kit, spindles, lock outs, im into it easily $3500. adds up quickly and Im doing all the welding and install myself!

Wow, yeah so I'll probably just go for the 44 in rear. I might be able to get the guy to throw in the d30 front then I'll have an extra d30 and matching gears. What type of locker should I put in the rear for a dd? Something reasonably priced obviously.

Well my dad has a yota with a lockright I think and basically I'm just talking about a locker that gives on corners somewhat. So your tires don't chatter and wear.

O ok well then I guess thats what I'll go with. I thought a spool had to wind up before it locked, like your diff is open till you wheel spin for a couple rotations then it locks.
