are you going to regear it? if so then make sure the shafts are not bent. if you are not regearing it. pop off the cover. make sure theres no metal shavings in the diff. make sure the carrier and pinion bearings are in good shape.

i would just regear it with a new master install kit. new bearings, races everything you need!

More money! I probably won't regear it right away I'll just get the d30 from the same cherokee and run it like that at first.

i wouldnt run used axles unless you heard them run. you can easly have chipped ring gear teeth, carrier or pinion bearings going out. axle shaft bearings making noise. buy them and save$$ to rebuild. it would suck driving down the road and it freezing up on you. just my 2 cent

Ok well that probably what I'll do then. It's off a wrecked XJ so it probably doesn't drive but I'll ask him

the d60 will have the same spline count (30) as a d44 rear. the front 44 will need a ton of $$ and work to get it to fit on the xj.

im building a hp44 from a f150. with gears, locker, axle shafts and ujoint, steering, hubs, bearings, bracket kit, spindles, lock outs, im into it easily $3500. adds up quickly and Im doing all the welding and install myself!
Dang $3500 for a 44 front, you could buy a dynatrac or curry for that. I bought mine for like $300, put in chromos, all new bearings, rotors, calipers, lockouts and it had a detroit in it and 4.56s so they stayed. I built all my own brackets and still working on steering but I got less than a grand in it.

Ok so I talked to a guy tonight who has a ford with d44 front and d60 rear with 4:10 gears. They are still in it and he said I could drive the truck to make sure they were good. He said he'd sell the pair for $250 but I bet I could get them for $200. Opinions? Yeah you'll probably say its too good to be true but if that's what they really are and they drive fine why not?

factor in all the bracket kits you will need front and rear. what side drop are they? does the ford have cast wedges on them? are they the radius arm style?

if you have the $$ and they are the right drop then why not. just plan to throw some $$ at them!

Yeah I guess I'll have to find that all out. I honestly don't know what most of that means. I have a few fabricators in my area that would install the axles for $500 the way they are so maybe if I cleaned them up first and got them ready then got that bracket from ballistic they'd do it for around $300 I'll call the tomorrow.

what are you going to do for the upper control arm mounts? also the truss for the front control arm? what brackets are you going to use for the trackbar?

that balistic brackets are just one of many you need!

Found out it's dodge so no go. Guess its back to a d44 in the rear. Are the wagoneer axles the same width?

waggy d44 is a common swap. its a lp axle though and some have issues with that. again you need a COMPLETE bracket kit to make it work! its also 6on5.5 bolt pattern so you will need new wheels to make it work and also new steering

Well then I guess I'll just stick with the d44. Unless I could possibly find an 8.8 with lower gears so I could just match the front and only do 1 set of gears. Another question, yes I am full of them, does the aussie replace the gears?
