Creative idea I like it. I'll defintely be lookin into doing this when the time comes lol. But I had an idea when I saw it. Did u ever think about doing them in a way that you could still shut the vents to prevent water getting in during rain and what not. I mean from here they look like vents for central a/c in a house unless i'm not seeing it right on my phone and I know that most of them have a little lever to shut the vents. Seems like it would be worth lookin into to get rid of water worries

Ahh I didn't think about the space issue in there. I'll still probably see what I can do when I get around to doing this. Would be nice to close up for DD when weather calls for it. All the same good thinkin there keep it up lol

I wouldn't worry so much about clearence, because placement can overcome that. My concern would be a few things:
1) Dirt, mud, and debris will probably get caught in the blades and become counter productive.
2) Wind and vibration may cause the blades to shift, and close the vent.
You're best bet is to place them well and use silicone on electrical components. The first thing i did when i bought this jeep was unplug all the stuff i could easily get to and add dialectric grease.
