That looks similar to my little lincoln 110 flux core. It is hard to say weather it is the same amperage as mine or not. I agree with looking into the polarity (the two big wires with wing nuts, inside where the spool of wire goes). They could be switched. Try using it without an extension cord, see if it does the same thing, hold the tip of the gun about 3/8" from your work. I have welded everything from 1/2" steel to two coffee cans together with mine. I have built motorcycle frames, and dune buggy frames with this thing. At first I was very bad at it. It took aloooot of practice, now I love this thing and wouldn't take anything for it.

I think we need some pics of these booger welds. Also I could't find any "owners manuels" on HF. Unless you mean owner's manual, cause Manuel is the illegal day laborer who hassles me a the home depot for work. I'm only posting cause I'm thinking of buy a Clarke machine off ebay.

I prepare my surface as well as I have when I have stick welded, but I'm just not getting like "penetration" I think. The welds look like Doo-Doo and are weak.

Should I ditch this POS? Save it for sheetmetal? Should I get a stick? Where do I get a cheap stick?

I plan on reenforcing the uni-frame with some 1/8 steel and I wanna build a custom rack. Is it me, or should I get a new welder????

Oh when I bought the welder it was rated for up to 1/8 steel. It has a wire speed setting and a "heat" setting (thats what I call it) it says A,B,C, or D. D is "hotter" then A.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I have one too. Make sure the leads are on right. I think it's torch - and ground + for flux core. They are only good IMO for 1/16 or less.

Doing a vertical up..... wire speed down, welding amp up.

Its the art of drawing. Try it some time in your work shop..

You say your using flux.... does your welder allow this!!!

ac.... dc... current changes between flux and soild wire!!

Look into were your wire feed is.. see if it will allow you to change 2 main wires around.

I had th same problem a while back but the opposite. I was trying to weld with gas and my machine was set for flux. I am willing to bet the polarity is backwards.

Does nobody realize this has been dead for over a year and half?. I'm sure the OP has bought a real welder or given up by now.

I swear, do people just post without looking at the dates on stuff? This kinda stuff should not be happening on a regular basis.....

Its the search feature most likely. People look stuff up via search then assume that the first or second listing is current. Once they reply it puts it back at the top again. Happens all the time.

Hmm, sort of true, sort of not... lol

If you use a gas bottle with flux, they say its a harder weld than just solid wire.

But remember.. flux.. and solid.. AC AND DC.. IF not set right.. flux will not weld, on the normal house hold current.

a 110 can be run on a 12 gauge wire, I do from time to time & dont have any trouble, & when I need 100' I use a 50' 10 gauge, & my 50' 12 gauge without problems.

I like the portability of a lightweight mig. & they can do a reasonably good job, but definately are harder to use than a real good mig welder.

has your welding improved since you first inquired?

Hmmm, that's an interesting thing to be annoyed by. Dates... who knew? I thought the information was the important part. Lots of things happened a long time ago that are still relevant and important today

Since I'm looking forward to learning the art of welding, I appreciated the revival of this thread and the information in it, since I never would have seen it otherwise. I've been considering the Lincoln 140HD.
