so my dad picked up some 1/4" plate and we cut strips to make the tie ins. then we cut out the channel in the unibody rails, tacked the tie ins to the bumper, and test fitted it.. then once it fit we welded it, and also added some gussets to them to beef them up a bit. lastly, we welded on the D-ring tabs. i decidd to go with the d-ring tabs rather than shackles because, well shackles are $20 a piece compared to $5 for these, and mounts are harder to make, and they can be easily stolen. but they also have there advantages as well.

Looks good man, I am in the process of making a rear bumper also. Still thinking of ideas though.

You were saying d-rings can easily be stolen, just don't put them on unless your going wheelin' or dont put them on till you need them. thats what I do up front and so far so good.

I suggest bolting on the D rings, welds like to snap under tension like that

Hmm, hopefully those d-rings are a little beefier in person, they look pretty weak. Gotta figure if somebody or yourself is really stuck, it could take a really good tug to get out, that could put 10-20k lbs of force on them.

well there 11k lbs rated. and if welds like this break, then all the welds to the tie ins would give before this. and im not a mudder, im more of a trail guy. so really i wont be gettin yanked on. and welds have very week lateral strength, but have very good strength straight on. after i paint the bumper, i am going to plastisize the rings, because whenever they are used the paint will just wear off. thanks for the replys guys!

so here some pics of it grided down to bare steel, primed and painted. i didnt really like the gossy finish, scratched to easy. so tonight im in the process of bedlining it. and its not goin as good as it should. for some reason its like the bedliner is reacting with the paint. it gets very sticky in some areas. but i really really didnt want to grind it all down again, so i just sanded the badspots and bedlined over them. looks decent, but doesnt bother me. so ill post some pics tomorow, hopefully with it mounted!

well i mounted it up tonight and got some pics. i still have to throw in the tie in bolts but i was too tired. i coated the rings in plasti-dip i got from ace hardware for $10, comes with plenty of it, and only takes 4 hrs to dry. its the same stuff thats on handles of wrenches. also, in the one pic, i had to grind down some of the hatch to get it to close, due to poor measuring hahah, well you live n you learn i guess. ill take some more pics of it in the sun tomorow. i think it truned out pretty good for my first fab.
