no easy way to flatten it and it look good.

 

it would probly be a bad idea to cut you support beams on the hood if thats what your thinking.

 

The hood vent from an H1 is pretty stout. I think it would maintain the rigidity of the hood.

And besides...it's just a hood. It provides no structural integrity to the vehicle. In the event of a front end collision that thing is crushed like a run can anyway.

As long as the vent is installed with good craftsmanship I don't see any problem cutting away the center "support" bean. Many hood lack this support and hold up just fine.

 

thats why im making one. i can make it look good and incorporate frame work to keep the hood rigid.

 

Just did a quick search and I couldn't find any first generation hmmwv hood vents. Only the H2and H3 vents. Unless I can get my hands on one for next to nothing I'm not buying an H2 vent for $109 at the cheapest lol.

 

and some of those are fake as well they are not actually louvered.

Yea H1 vents are impossible to find. I have hook ups at every motor pool on camp Lejeune and I can't get one. They have to be ordered. Something about the metal they use is special to the newer hmmwv. But I will still keep my eyes out. If I find two......I know where the other one is going! I'll hook you up if I come across some!

Ok, sooo in another forum... I wont say which lol, but there is a guy doing these hood vents for another type of jeep, I wont say which one cuz I dont wanna be "wrong". He does a pretty dang good job! He does them for like under $100.

 

Thats pretty cool, but unless he's local he does you and I no good.

I did it this way except I made the holes smaller and rounded the corners. I was scared to cut into my hood and figured if/when I wanted to go bigger it would be easier then making the hole smaller. I also figured heat will still escape and water/elements will have a smaller hole to come thru.

 

Looks good. But there is no reason to worry about cutting in to the hood. It has rolled edges all around and "support" bends. Obviously if you're going to remove a rather large portion then some bracing would def be a good idea.
