Default My 85 XJ

I did a lot of mods to my 85 XJ in the last 2 years (keep in mind its my daily driver, and i have a kid so money is tight) i like to build anything i can anyway, its been chopped, to be a pickup i built a wooden bed for it because i like wood, Replaced the rear window with a sunroof out of something in the pick n pull yard, I replaced the stock gauges with the sport gauges from a 96, upon which i kept the idiot light switch's and used them to trigger lights next to my mechanical gauges, 31 inch tires, instead of the stock oil pres and temp gauges i have a second battery gauge for my second battery and a second fuel guage for my second gas tank, i used the tank switch from a F150 to switch between tanks, Painted the diff covers red, i spray painted it black, welded on a new bumper, Used a heavy duty DC plug to make custom jumper cables so i don't haft to pop the hood to jump start anyone, added some off road lights, replaced my stock driving lights with 55 watt off road lights, remote start, stereo sub and amp, removed the stock gas tank and installed dual tanks in the bed, (32 gallon's total) Jerry cans and mounts on the back of the cab, Western style mirrors off a F150, Tube rear bumper, Cb radio, Hood scoop, hung my hi-lift on the side of the bed, Posi lock dana 30 front with welded gears, disc brake conversion on the rear dana 35, ( this will come off and go on the dana 44 i am building when its ready to go in) future mods include taking the 4cyl out and replacing it with a 6 Cly. And a dana 44 rear, 4.10 gears in the rear, Spare tire mount on the roof, Enjoy the pix

My girl showing it off...

So yeah.... Its not a 30,000 Dollar rig but its mine, and i love it.

Well I got a few items.

(1) I could not find taillight guards for 97+ XJ's without dropping a crisp 100 bill on them so I picked up 3 sticks of solid rod and 1/2 angle iron from my local hardware store. Got to bending, made a jig to get the angles down and the final product.

(2) Decided to fab up some for the front lights, I guess i'm the only one who had busted a few...lol (masked off around the edges and painted the plastic black)

(3) Then I decided to fab up a rear ladder for two purposes. 1st, when I made my rear bumper the ends caps needed to be pushed away from the body a little and 2nd I camp so I needed to get ontop to get items down. Made of square tubing, one cut at a time with a hacksaw until I got the angle down. 2 wing nuts ontop, and quick release pins on bottom.

Does having a broken rear window washer hose count. Its great for spraying tailgaters.

well, i modified the stock crossmember to incorporate a 1.5" t-case drop WITHOUT actually lowering the crossmember or using spacers. so im not sacrificing any ground clearance like i would with a normal drop

cost is $0 in parts...takes about 2 hours with a BFH, cutting tool, and a welder.
