That's incredibly dangerous to you and your passengers. If you ever hit something that hood will fly straight through your windshield. You elimated the crumple zone that the hood provides. Do a cowl hood/hood vents the right way.
ESPECIALLY since you used washers instead of solid spacers, and you used grade 5 hardware. Those bolts are not meant to take the moment forces that a collision will now apply to them. This is a recipe for disaster.

Sorry buddy but you are WRONG. The cowl doesn't do **** to hold the hood in an accident. If the bolts DID shear, the back of the hood would skip right over the cowl anyway.... its not stopping anything lol
There is a lot that has to happen before a hood comes loose. the safety catch has to fail (ever see a car that rear ends someone? yup the front of the hood gets pushed down...), The bolts have to shear clean off, And the hood would have to be so strong that it will not fold like paper.
If you can come up with evidence of this happening then forgive me but I have never heard of such a thing.
So am I on death row every time I drive my GMC Sprint? There is no cowl behind the hood.... The brackets hold it and nothing else... I doubt the bolts are even grade 5 haha and I had rear ended someone before. The hood just folds.... doesn't even bend the brackets.

How can you tell they're grade 5? I believe they are actually METRIC. and metric grades are measured differently.
If you hit something that hard your screwed any how!!
Why would you be worried about crumple zones when a lifted jeep will use the car it hits as a ramp! And if you happen to spin around in the air the hillbilly cowel will catch the wind and slow you down! So it's actually a good idea!!
Sorry...
I actually did the same mod with spacers instead of washers. But too much engine heat came right in the front windows so I undid the mod.
Good idea though!

Installed Grand Cherokee door wiring harness into the XJ to help aid in removing a door full of power!(options). Other than needing a bunch of splices and heat shrinking, it went pretty easy (helps to draw out a wiring chart to follow).
Should be nice having kick panels where they should be, and only needing to pull 1 plug when removing doors.. gotta see how well they hold up though.

XJ cut to fit ZJ receiving end:
Male end attached to XJ:
Plugged in (without covering):

The bolts are stainless for anyone else who's panties get in a bunch. I opted to not cut up the square stock only because within the next few weeks I am chopping the hood up to weld a real cowl hood. it was a waste of 3 minutes.

What year of the Grand Cherokee had these harnesses and where did you source them?
I have been looking for a multi-pin connector to mount in the door jam for my XJ for a few years, with no luck. I had no idea these even existed.......let alone on another jeep model! Thanks for finding them!

OK whatever...I have a masters in structural engineering and I'm not going to give you all a lesson in stress and mechanics. All I'm saying is the mod you did will not allow the hood to crumple/fold like it should in an accident. The bolts are not designed to be the failure point - but you just made them the failure point by inducing moment forces into them that they never were supposed to see. It has nothing to do with the hood latch or the cowl.
I have good reasons why I said what I did. Take it or leave it I don't care.

I too would also like to know which year grand cherokee those connectors are from. I've already done the door mod on my jeep but im running 2 stereo connectors on both driver and passenger side doors. And they are a P.I.N.A. Those just look so much easier to use then my set-up. I would really like to redu mine with those. So if you could be so kind and tell all of us which year grand cherokee to look for in the local junk yard it would be very much appreciated. Thanx.

I got these connectors out of a 1997 Grand Cherokee (assuming any ZJ from 94-98 will be the same) in the wrecking yard (I used 2 driver's side set ups as they were available, but passenger ones will work too). You end up with a couple extra wires left over (as driver's ones have 24 wires, and my XJ used 20 and 19).
