He is talking about the ones plumbed into the cowl of your Jeep. The cowl that's already there.

Both are sealed and cost overall around 40 bucks to make them both, that including the 30 bucks for the two air filters lol. Can feel a strong power difference in my little 4 banger.
I'm a little slow today: please explain why you are emphasizing "true" CAI. Unless I'm missing something I don't see how the concept differs from my K&N FIPK. Or any so-called CAI for that matter. Still under the hood, heat shielded (altho that could be arguable depending on the material you used).

There are 'CAI' setups sold that don't isolate the filter from the engine heat.

Quite a few, actually. And they aren't really cold air intakes.

Arguably none of them are if they're under the hood.

But I actually clicked on the thread thinking he had done something else. Oh well ...

There are versions that have the filter completely boxed off and sealed from any hot engine bay air that could get pulled in. Usually there is another port, hole, or tube drawing air from elsewhere, typically behind a headlight.

Those would be considered a true CAI, as they are indeed pulling fresh, cool air.

in that last pic your filter is loaded with metal shavings. if it were mine i would throw it right in the trash and get a new one

shop vac does wonders for that and he's right, I called it a true CAI because it is drawing cold air because of the heat shield. have seen way to many intakes called a CAI with no heat shield, and I see very little homebrewed ones made with heat shields. figured I'd clarify
