Love the design. Kudo's to the self teaching on the welding. Stick is way to much power for conduit. Mig would have been better but use what ya got. Your local metal/welding shop should have a stick welding disk or sheet. This will help you as far as what rods and sizes work for different steels and thickness. TIP: Don't arc weld vertically while sitting indian style under the rod So I heard.......

Thanks man! I've got a nice tig and mig welder but not sure how to use it but I will learn when I go to do my bumpers. Oh and thanks for the tip! Yeah I prob should weld in something more than basketball shorts and crocs but oh well. It also helps to wear gloves lol. A couple times I had some slag metal burn me pretty bad but I guess that's part of it

Thanks! I have yet to see another roof rack I'd rather have than this one. Next pay check is going to buy 4 KC Daylighters! Anxious to get them in! Not sure where to put the switch panel but thats a minor detail. More pics to come.

Question: Is it illegal to drive around without covers on the lights? I'm just wondering because my grandpa asked me if it was legal or not and it kinda got me concerned. I live in Indiana if anyone knows I'd apreciate the info

Hawk Racing-awesome rack man. Good on you for doing your own thing! I also want to know if it is lawful to drive around w/o the covers. It is a bull_hit law, but I wouldn't want to be hassled by "the man" for something so stupid.

So I just built an adapter for the roof rack to fit 2 bikes up top. I went to the new custom bike shop here in town to see what they had and ended up with 2 spindle/brackets/ something to hold the bikes down haha. Pics will come. Currently waiting for paint to dry. I mainly did this so that I could see if my kayak ideas would work or not. My conclusion is that they will! So far everything looks great. I will have the bike up there tomorrow evening after work. I'm anxious to take the gf somewhere with the bikes. I just feel bad for leaving the XJ behind

Pics coming when adapter is finished tomorrow.

I got the bike rack done! It was a test to see if my design was worth anything or not. I believe it is a success. Here's the progress:

These are the spindle bike holder things I got yesterday $16

Anyone got an idea where to find a good price on lights? I'm looking for 4 KC Daylighter 130W Black Spot lights. Or any other suggestions?

Like these: http://www.jeep4x4center.com/lights-...r-kch-631.html

Thanks

I'm a huge motorcycle nut! if you need any advice I can always help. I also have a Triumph Speed Triple that I LOVE! it truly is the best bike I have ever rode. Are you planning on building a cafe racer? My finished product should have less than $500 in it

Looks good. Honestly tho, listen to what several others have said and get yourself a properly rated respirator. It's not just a matter of holding your breath. Welding Galvanized metal releases seriously aggressive carcinogens. They may not effect you now, but they can affect your children later when they set up shop in your lungs...

Don't mean to be a downer, but I work in the metal industry and have seen the effects...

The roof rack looks good.

We are both looking to buy old 70's bikes and building them ourselves. We did find a couple already build ones in the 2k range around here too. We are just shopping right now though. Still not sure what we are going to do yet.
