from the looks of it, that hook is cast steel and probably wasnt welded correcly.

OP how did you weld it and is it cast steel?

· Proper design, careful forging, and precision controlled quench and tempering gives maximum strength without excessive weight and bulk.
· Every Crosby Shank Hook has a pre-drilled cam which can be equipped with a latch.

Note: Proof load is 2 times Working Load Limit.
All carbon hooks designed with a 5/1 design factor.
* Dimension before machining (as forged).
(this is off there website)

And I used a wire feed to weld out and in side the square tubing. I did 4 passes on the out side and 2 on the inside.

a shovel must be too complex a tool for these idiots.

didnt the cherokee even have a bumper with D-rings? it looked like it did, so really why the .... use the axle???

Didnt look like the damage was too bad, looked to me like it broke the steering and the control arm mounts and/or bend the control arms. Axle MAY have been ok still

actually, on second look they WERE pulling from the bumper (I think), arms/mounts just couldnt handle it

It looks like they were using the bumper, but that whole axle twisted off. So I'm sure the driveline trans case is gone and all the mounts, Maybe the oil pan. That XJ is done. Lol

i dont think big tires, lift and tire carrier would add that much weight. i have a 4.5 inch lift. with 33's, and i took a dryer to the recycling place, and when they weighed my rig, i think it was around 3400 with everything.

i wheel there frequently....that stuff is thick....its like mud mixed with coal dust from the surface mining....

on topic, i had a welded hook and broke it off, no one injured, now i have one of these...

and a combine recovery rope...overkill doesnt hurt for recovery, since u never know wat ur gonna be pullin out...7.3L f250 lol

I'm not hating on the project because I enjoy making parts like this but I've always used the cross pin in my receiver as the rear recovery point. Just stick the eyelet of my recovery strap in there and put the pin in.
