Hook hitch

That hook ain't about to fail. I've been welding since I was put to work summer's in my fathers awning & canopy shop when I was 13 and that's about as strong as he can make that thing. Hell, I've seen a full size Ram 1500 4x4 pulled out with one of the cheazy, $20 Harbor Freight receiver hooks and if that hook can do that, this guys hook ain't gonna fail pulling an XJ, no way!!!

No need to, you described what you did. Instead of simply butt welding a hook to a 2" square pipe, you retained the eye of the hook into the mount for added strength, which is what I was alluding to. Even if your welding skills are half-a$$, this system shouldn't fail unless you actually put enough stress on it to physically break the hook...
