ok, Im new here, but i had a good idea for a cheap roof rack. a shopping cart. cut off the basket, take some off the sides, paint it, mount it. i dont know how it would work or look. bet never know. what do you think?

 

it would look kinda small wouldn't it? up to you though man. how bout an old bunk bed frame? i see those on the side of the road all the time

 

if your going that route y dont you try to find some old futons n weld the pieces together

I have not done this, and dont think i plan to. It was just an idea I had if someone wanted a cheap one.

not trying to kill the creativity here lol but i build them too for a living actually and normal price at the steel yard is 8.10 a stick (20ft) for some 1 inch .060 wall tube, get some square tube, cut it up and angle the corners at 45s so it looks half way decent and put some mesh in the bottom and be done with it.
i can make one in about 4 hours by myself and it takes about 80 ft of tube and a piece of steel mesh that runs about 20 bucks so your in it about 60 bucks and a full day then you have you a nice rack thats not ghetto lookin.
