Im dreaming of Rockwells

I agree that size of tire is way overkill unless u want to mudbog. If I set mine with a 6.72 gears and 44 I could still drive it as my dd. If I calculated it right at 3000 rpm with my transmission gear ratio I'd be going 83 mph. And still have almost a 50 to 1 gear ratio in 1 st and low lock. Which is way low but to pull it with a 4.0 would keep me power plenty. Set the suspension up right and it could be used in all applications

I'm getting the impression that rockwells are for mud only and doing much more with them is pointless. I wasn't expecting so much downplay and pointless comments but as I said before to each there own. Dana 44 and 60 at the more common axle swaps and I agree that they are more practical. Just not the over all expectation I have planned for my xj. Thanks for all input

Not just for mud, this thing could flex one wheel on my jeep and have the other 3 on the ground. And with the wheels it has on it makes it so it isn't tippy. I think theyre 18 wheeler front wheels turned backwards.

Rocks are far from just being a mudding axle! There are alot of tube crawlers running rocks and just about every rig doing the Top Truck Challenge is on rocks anymore. It's all on what you want to do, There's guys on here that have more money in there IMO junk dana 30's than you can pick up a set of rocks for. Yeah it will be impractical for street use but if built right would be a wheeling machine!

This Jeep does NOT have rockwells under it. It has unimog axles. And this picture was taken at the all breeds jeep show. That Jeep crawled the obstacle course just fine. And with the gearing it has, could simply idle over most things in its way.

I didnt relize those were Mogs... Heres an example of what a Cherokee with Rockwells under it will get you...
Ive seen Tims buggy and quite a few Coleworx buggys.. Yea they are stretched and low, but i wouldnt waste my money on one of them. Yea they may be fun, but if you notice, 99% of the stuff they get on, all the do is spin from being so light weight, people think light weight is where its at, maybe to a certain point, but weight helps plant those tires too..

Rockwells just dont work on an XJ thats what we've been saying, not that they're bad in general, only an idiot would try to argue that point. It's like saying "Big ***** are horrible!" no.. big ***** are awesome, they're horrible on a womans back though, and when shes 50 they'll be tickling her ankles

I'm understanding the pros and cons. U guys make very strong points. I was just able to acquire a set of rocks for about 1300 and thought hey why not. It my be possible but I do agree the unibody situation plays a big role. My be a better decision to go smaller but the unimog axles how hard are they to come by. I've looked before without luck. And does anyone have much info on them
