I am not too keen on cuttin my hood so i was thinking of geting a 2 1/2 inch hole saw and cut some holes in my firewall to let the hot air out thru the cowl vent...anyone ever do this?

i think you would be better off with cutting your hood. or going to a junk yard and finding an identical hood to cut up then if you dont like it, you at least have your original hood!

cut a bunch of holes in your firewall.....and it wont be much of a firewall anymore.

i have seen quite a few xj's in the jy that wear burned up under the hood.

plus isnt that where your heat and a/c gets fresh air from? i dont know cause i havent had probs with mine..........

sounds like you would be putting exhaust fumes into your cab......CO=death bro!!!

silver is a somewhat common xj color(around here at least), check the junkyard for a hood and cut that one up, or you can get a different color one and bedline it and look badass, haha

Cut your hood, just take your time and do it right. You only live once and hey, you can tell your friends you did it yourself.

not a good idea making holes to the firewall, specialy if you use your air conditioning system, and you´re runing craked headers you´ll be smelling gases from the oil, gasoline and the engine. not a good idea

If your just going into the "cowl" area it may not effect much just make sure to seal off any double wall seams with proper automotive seam sealer(its fire proof). however it may not do the same job as vents. Another option is to use some hood spacers. I cut holes in my hood and regret it now. Living in the great lakes area, the summers are not all too hot. So I saw no real differance in temps. Wish I would have used spacers first.

Just suck it up and cut your hood. Live and learn. Plus you'll probably be happy with it anyway. I'm planning on doing the same thing soon.

Just put 1/2" spacers where the hood bolts to the hinge. works great.

My question is why are you doing this mod? I have been running xj's and mj's on the trails for yrs, and have never had a problem withh under hood heat. Set you electric fan to run off a toggle switch... run it will rig is moving.. and call it good.

Like I said I regret mine. Plus it kinda looks "ricey", unless you use labarron ones. Mine are from a trans -am.

I have a spare hood I am going to try making a cowl induction hood out of this spring. The only reason I don't cut my original hood is that it is illegal to drive without a hood here and my XJ and MJ are my DDs so I don't want to have to park one while I fashion my new hoods scoop.
