if you go to lowes you should be able to find a locking clamp which would look pretty bad ***** on there

 

Man i think i looked at all 2.5 million things they have at lowes. and what i have on already is the best thing i have found at lowes. Your lowes might carry some diffrent stuff. If you find it, i would love some pics. thanks

 

Yes, I can but I am on vacation and will not be back tell the 14th. I can draw a picture of it for you today. The way I mounted it is very nice and very strong. As for the lock I lived on the main drag in the town and that jack was on my every day for the year I lived there.

Ok, I was looking at your picture and if you can take one of the driver's side. I will draw you some plan's. It will use about the same parts that i listed. All you have to do is give me the length and the height of it. I can draw up a weld on set up or a bolt on one just let me know.

I will do a good job. I allways say if you can say "I built this to the president of the USA and be proud of it" then its a good job.

 

ok Here is a drawing I made up using a cup cake box as my ruler. lol
The first picture is a side shot of the jeep front to back left to rigth. The 2x1" tubing I just welded it to the rack (I made my rack). The right side has the 2x1 thats only like 2" long and the left side is the full 4" long welded at the top to bottom of the rack. For the lock I just ran it into the jacks holes and to one of the side bracing of the rack ( a mutl. use one)

For the 2nd drawing its how i have the bolt, washers, and wing nut used. I drilled a hole in the 2x1 and put the bolt in it going inside out. I then welded it to the 2x1 then welded the big washer. Then the jack goes on. Then the 2nd big washer and a lock washer and last the wing nut. When I am off roading I just leaf the lock off and just used the wing nuts. (((((((get the bigest bolt that fits in the jacks holes.))))) That is it. I will post the real pictures up here when I get back on the 14th.

 

Sorry for the drawing I dont have a lot of things to help me draw but I hope it helps out. OOOO. Inthe first picture there is a big black thing that is on the jack and the handle is a hi-lift holder I side it down a litter more so the 2x1 will stop it so no one can still it.


To make it a bolt on you can just do what you did for the shover mount.

 

no problem i appreciate the drawing and the reply. I am not going to be able to weld anything so i will figure up some hardware concauction based off your design.

I think my main concern was is three mounting points spaced about 10" apart going to be strong enough to hold a high lift?

 

I think they will be good as long as they are strong. I have a idea on the mounting just use flat stock and bolts to mount it to the rack.

 

got a dumb question, would it be to much trouble to say get a piece of round tubing with an inside diameter the size of the shovel handle about a foot or foot and a half , split it in half long ways , weld two small hinges on one side and a small piece of flat stock on the other on both pieces with a hole for a lock or stud and wing nut. you could also put some of the weather strip foam inside the pipe to keep it from making any noise. just though it would be a good way to do it and never seen it done before. or for a shovel without the grip you could use the same pipe without splitting it and drill a hole in it weld a nut on top of the hole and use a stud type wing nut like a set screw to hold it in place.just slide it in the pipe and cinch it down !

I'm sure you could...but it'd likely look pretty bad unless you had a table saw with which to cut the pipe. Probably more work and trouble than it's worth, imo.

 

so you mean to tell me you couldnt do it with a cut off wheel ? just chalk line it and cut it straight , not hard at all , but there isnt much i cant do with a good grinder and a cut off wheel lol

I would turn the shovel around. I would make a small piece(even slit pvc) that the tip of the shovel could fit into holding that end. for the handle end, I would have something similar to those clips that hold garage items on the wall. design it so you bring the handle down and it clamps in place. with the tip rigid, it just a matter of placement of the rear part for a tight fit.

I have gotten acustom to it and left it the way it is in the first pics. Have not had the first problem. thanks for all the imputs. i am still working on the hi lift jack mounts. Just need to get some 2"x3" square tubing and i will be done
