I can def see the argument on both sides, but imho I think that over all a lot of the questions belong in tech or chat. Like I'm gonna start a bumper what do I do, but then there are other questions like " I'm stuck on this part of my build, what did you do" that would be kind of appropriate for the section. The bad part is where to draw the line. We all know that we won't go in the chat section usually unless we have a question to ask and the chance of actually reading other people fab questions in there are slim to none but at the same point that may just be me. I'm interested to see what other people think.

I like new rule. It'll help keep fab uncluttered. I go into the fab section all the time looking at what others have made - especially front bumpers as that's my next project. But if I have a question, I either PM the fabricator or leave a visitor message on their wall, rather than starting a thread. I'm not a CF guru, but I do know that people go everywhere on here just to see what's new in the other sections so your question will most likely get answered whether it be in tech, chat, pm, or visitor message form.

I applaud Eliminator for taking the reins and trying to get the Fab section inline..
We see everything from how do i trim my fenders to dual transfercase swaps in there.. not all belong. There has to be some border as to what is considered Fab.
He knows he's not gonna make everyone happy.. some will and are getting upset here. But he made a decision and we need to support him in it. If it needs further tweaking in the future as this forum grows and real fabricators happen in, Eliminator can adjust as things progress.
Give it time and let Eliminator fine tune things.

i agree this section does need some work
however i dont see the point of causing a huge fuss over a fab question being posted here i would much rather see a fab question here then a post titled "Roof rack mounts" and then just a pic of a u bolt.
so where to draw the line is the question
the post titled "homebrew jeep mods" is in this section and 90% of that post isnt fab related. what is fab related about screwing a bike cup holder to the dash?
and no i not bashing anyones post just making a point
fabrication should be defined then followed by all post if a fuss is to be made
or maybe start a new forum topic "Fabrication Questions"
anyway just my view as both a fabricator by trade and an ex web host / forum owner by hobby

Well I'm sorry for being so ignorant. I thought that was what the write-up section was for.. and sorry that asking a question about bolting and WELDING is so so stupid especially for the fabrication section.. I will keep further questions about FABRICATION in the cherokee tech and general chat discussions where they belong, obviously. Thanks to the guys that were very helpful for answering my original question.. to everyone else cheers and have a great day

I believe "Fab" is anytime you have to make the part yourself because of these reasons.
Part is no longer available. You want to make it better, stronger, more reliable.
You want to be different, more power, etc, etc, etc.
Fabricate means to make or create something. Everything else is a writeup

Well I am sorry, I didn't realize I wasn't being calm. Just surprised how strong everyone startin jumpin down the throat of people posting accidentally the wrong thing. Its not like we post the wrong thing on purpose just to be stubborn jerks. The saying comes to mind- "conversations usually end the way they start." The moderator that started this thread was rude and derogatory and made it seem that everyone was retarded... and some others followed up the same way. Now if you are my boss and paying me to order me around I'll take it in a stride as I'm sure everyone here would. But when I log on to a hobby site with fellow jeepers I expect everyone to have mutual respect and accord each other dignity. We have enough problems elsewhere, why not just enjoy talkin about what we like? "You catch more flys with honey then vinegar".

I think the fabrication section should be split into a sub-forum. One for Fabrication "write-ups" and another for fabrication related questions.

thanks for your feedback. sorry to disappoint you, but i was far from "rude and derogatory" in my post. this subforum has rules, just like EVERY other subforum on this site. there are pretty much two subforums that people like to look past the rules on though, this one and the for sale one. we are trying to "fix" both of them.

Look let's be patient and keep in mind things will change as we move along like Overland said. It's a work in progress and sure not everyone will be happy but well that's life and I don't mean that to be negative. What we have a section dedicated to fabrication. Well fabrication isn't cutting a fender well ot mounting lights to a bumper and so on. Fabrication is starting with nothing and coming to an end product such as building rock slides, bumpers, skids and so on.. Our goal is for the section to be strictly dedicated to fab work and nothing more. As to whether we will allow fab related questions not sure yet but fab writeups can go into the writeups section. So maybe this area should mainly be a Q&A type or something.
We welcome members input but please be contructive. Negativity will get us no where in making this area truly useful not to mention **** me off. Now that's not meant to be negative just a fact.. So be positive and provide good feed back and we will do our best to try and find a good center point to work from.
