How about your front bumper it looks like the stock bumper. Got any close up pics of that? How did you mount your winch?

that looks sweet, might have to figure out how to mount a tire carrier to my rear bumper.

 

any info on how you mounted that to tire carrier to your bumper and where you got it?

 

Most XJ tire mount are on top of the bumper and block the tail lamps. I hate that!



-I got a trailer spring hanger kit from Tractor Supply Co. The pivot bracket is a spring frame mount and it's gusseted with shackle plates.

-The horizontal 2" square tube is actually 2 angle irons welded together, also from TSC. I drilled a 7/8" hole in the end and welded in a steel bushing that I had laying around. I capped the ends with scrap steel.

-I drilled the pivot bolt to allow a greasable pivot.(broke 2 drill bits doing that) The pivot bolt is also from the spring hanger kit.

-The Tire mount and upright are a cut down front tire mount for a reciever from etrailer.com . the 1" sq tube braces were scrap metal.



The catch is also a spring frame mount. I first designed it to just have the pull pin, but the tire mount wobbled too much. I got the latch from Carr Lane Mfg. It made the tire carier very stable.

I like the look of the spare on the back of an Xj like that, and I cant really find any after market rear bumpers i like. So I was jsut thinking about adding it to a stock one like you did..

And I just saw your front bumper and thats actually how i was planning on doing mine except for i want my side to come back more and tie into the finders a little more lol but i like it! lol

 

The stock bumpers are VERY weak. My front ,and the rear I used to run, both have 1.5" angle iron welded and bolted across the top and bottom with several upright supports.
Try to put a HiLift under a stock bumper and watch it bend. My Bro did!

if you like the look of your stock bumper and/or don't wanna pay a fortune on one that can carry a tire, check out detoursusa.com they make a system for the front bumper called the backbone system and a system for the rear called the tailbone... utilizes your stock bumpers as a shell, but there is serious thick gauge steel that strengthens them... makes your front bumper be able to carry a winch and recovery points
