Wow dude, that is probably the coolest roof rack I've ever seen. I'm actually about to make my own and borrow part of your design. How do you like the 2"x2" spacing on the squares. Im going to make mine out 3/8" rebar with 2.5" x3" holes. What do you think?...and anyone else for that matter, especially the rebar, can I get some feedback on that?

Do you just have a lot of rebar laying around? Seems like it'll be pretty heavy once completed...not to mention a bunch of welds. The material used for the OP's rack should be pretty easy to find if you search for pallet rack shelving or similar. At least that way you could skip all the welding!

you could make the frame from rebar, making the metal mesh all from rebar would make it really heavy...

Rebar would be very heavy.... You can get sheets of the 1/4" bar grid that i used for like $20 a sheet before shipping.
Thanks for the compliment too!

haha thanks man.
It definately has come in handy i can carry 12 on the roof and 4 off the hitch with my other rack.
being the VP of my colleges race club it helps when we go on trips to places
(picture of it not finished and in mock up)

The hitch rack i made 2 years ago now. It fits in real snug and is the metric version of 3/16" thick steel. It is very sturdy and does not wobble even with 4 mountain bikes on it. I have made 2 others for people and i did the same thing for the block mount and then used angle to steel for the rear wheel to mount into.
When all of the bikes are on the roof rack nothing wobbles! haha.

If you have a 2" hitch i have seen a few made. They used 3/8" 2" box tubing that came out of the hitch about 6" then went up at a 50* angle and up about 6" then back out to level. It had just a 3/8" steel platform for the motor to sit on (like a garage stand jacks up a bike, about that size of a plate) and had some angle to keep the bike from shifting front and back.
I dont know how you could make it tilt. I would need to think about that some more. But here is a basic design.

you could a design where there is 2 pivot point. that way it can pivot up and down. You could throw an air shock inbetween the 2 pivots to help move the weight around.
