But he would have the extra cost of an extra piece of 3/16 and if weight was a concern then both would weigh more than 1/4....not much but still.

i agree, just find a piece of 1/4 for the bumper mounts, that way you wil never have to worry about it breaking, 1/4" is perfect for mounts, ive made four different bumper and have use 3/8s for three of them and 1/4 for the last one, i trust them and so do my customers

Here's the last progress pic I took with my phone:

For some reason the card reader on my computer isn't working so I can't upload all the pics I took with my camera.

I've definitely learned a lot about fabrication in the last two days. My welder (cheap HF flux core) is barely up to the task of welding 3/16 steel. Even with the surfaces beveled and ground shiny it kind of struggles with it. Granted, I just started welding so I'm sure it's a combination of lack of equipment and lack of skill. I spend 4x more time beveling edges with the grinder than I do actually welding.

The pieces are fitting together great, though. There is something to be said for having computer designed and cut pieces. I've decided that there's really no reason to put d-ring mounts on this thing because I'd have to take it somewhere to get them put on and I'm not sure the rest of my welds will be up to snuff.

It's wire feed flux, but yeah. I'm definitely not stacking dimes like a pro TIG welder or anything.

looking good dude. make sure you get some descent flux wire. the harbor freight welder will do ok but there wire is garbage. lowes sells Lincoln wire for like 10 bucks a spool. you can also get smaller diameter wire and it will burn a little hotter. try .023.

P.s. any chance you are going to share that .cnc file with us? lol

Here's the whole face of it:

It's coming together slowly, 85% grinding wheel and 15% welding.

I spent an hour of quality time with my grinder and the bumper last night:

I have all the seams ground down and have a few stretches that I need to re-do now that I'm not completely useless with a welder. This weekend I'll mock it up on my XJ so I can cut the frame tie-ins to length and finish a few other things up.

After that I'm going to hit it with some Evercoat Metal Glaze and start painting it.

Here are a bunch more progress pics. I have all the pieces put together now and I just need to paint it.

I cut out my section braces and welded them to my tie-ins:

Then I welded the section brace and tie in to the rest of the bumper:

Test fit from the front:

Test fit front quarter:

It will ride a little higher than it looks in those pics.

Finishing up the bottom plates. It's so much easier when the welding is going smoothly and I'm not stopping/starting every 2":

Everything on, ready for a little more grinding and paint:
