I did the same thing about a year ago because I got pulled over for my tires sticking out past my fenders. The officer didn't accept them because they weren't DOT approved so I got my third ticket for my tires sticking out past my fenders. This ticket was $420 (Third offense).

There's always one officer that's a douche and makes them all look bad. It's sad, because I know a lot of police officers and most of them are good guys that would never ticket somebody for such a stupid reason.


I understand the reason for the tires not being allowed to stick out past the body of the vehicle (Throwing road debris), but what I don't understand is why tractor trailers can drive around without a trailer on and their tires completely exposed on the top. It just doesn't make sense to me... My tires sticking out 1-2" from the fenders have a substantially less risk of throwing any road debris than a tractor trailer tire fully exposed.

 

I'd be proud. Making something out of nothing, with your kid & it looks good, function as good as manufactured flares, but these won't break.

Take a trip to your local PD. They'll be glad to tell you if it's enforced or not.

 

Funny that I found this thread I bought the same stuff from HD a couple weeks ago to do this to my rig and just found this thread today. Looks good man looks damn near the same as the BW flat fenders and don't cost $300+

Looks better than any of the other garden edging "flares" I've seen. And as picky as I am, that's saying a lot. I'd run them if I could figure out a way to hide the holes. Decent project.

 

I'm with stationwagon because I like them except for the open holes on the ends...maybe fill em with black silicone, epoxy, or bondo or something to fill it in, then clean it up and paint it with some rattle can..?
