I used a small flux core welder like the one from Harbor Freight for most of this one. Highest heat and low wire speed will burn in 1/4". Just practice before you start. For the D-rings i used a Millermatic overtop of the flux core welder because they are 1/2" thick.

Get you a decent welder and practice ALOT!

Thats actually all Im using. But for the d rings Im extending the mounting plate from the frame all the way out 2" past the bumper, then sandwich a piece of 1/4" on either side. So overall ill have 3/4" mounts tied straight into the frame. BEEFY! Lol

So word to the wise on installing a stubby bumper.

The stock bumper also acts as a shield for the intake on a stock airbox. Ie installing a stubby allowes water to directly enter the airbox unobstructed. Either install a snorkel or find some way to shield the intake.

I didn't realize this last weekend, hit an 18" deep puddle full speed, hydro locked the motor and snapped a crank rod. Don't get me wrong, i love the bumper but when its fixed ill love my new snorkel even more

huh? no....

the water enters the intake from behind the headlight. the stock bumper doesnt protect that.

Yes the bottom back of the drivers headlight, about 3" from the frame rail. So removing the 6" tall bumper and putting nothing in its place allowes alot more water to run unobstructed towards the intake.
