dont know if this has been covered yet...but what kind of lift shocks are you going to be using that will support all of this weight?

Sorry if I am repeating something someone else has said, but I thought i would add two cents. My solution would be to put a roller on the back of the tire carrier frame contacting the lift gate. (Maybe even rollerblade wheels for those short on funds) Then maybe adding the stronger struts to lift gate and then the tire carrier would go up with the rear lift gate and remain a certain distance off of it.

Best of luck fellas!

Special ones that have 80-260 lbs of lift force haha. There is a company called Surplus Center that has some really cheap ones for a few bucks each. I will buy two of each (there are like 5 different ones) to figure out what I need. If one of them works, I will buy a better set from McMaster-Carr. If the opening ones dont work, then I will try some that close assist. If neither of them will work, I will have to use the electric gate opener/ actuator.

Today I got the sides. front and back, and one of the cross bars welded up. I also cut out the gutter mounts from an old leaf spring. They are 1/4"x2.5"x4 5/8". Then I just started messing around with the welder, and almost broke my chop saw by trying to cut the left over spring steel that I had welded a lot, and dropped in water to harden a few times.

Tomorrow I plan on getting it centered on the roof, the gutter mounts welded on, and see if I can still use the roof holes. Then I will start on the swing up part. It might be a while till I order the gas springs and pillow blocks for the hinges because my dad wants to order some stuff too, not to mention I don't have a credit card and he does.....

sorry didnt read the whole thread, but i did see the part where you asked how strong the yotas e-brakes are, dont know if it was answered or not so i will. In my jeep i can take off with the e-brake on and it will just slow me down, on the otherhand, if you had the e-brake on on my old yota and tried to take off, you wouldnt move no matter what you did....hope this helps

I do, but I have no plans on making any for anybody else unless you lived really close to me. Thanks for the comment!
