Yeah that's one of the reasons I'm considering it so strongly. I looked up the model and pulled up the manual for it and saw that conversion as an option. Keeping my fingers crossed this will be around for a bit while I save up some cash....

the welding skills in this thread are awesome. This is one skill i have always wanted to learn but can't find someone to teach me. i have access to a very nice Miller 220v welder and would love to use it on projects for the jeep.

Welding Tips
Since you mentioned welding sources. I have been drooling over this site because I am just now getting back into Auto-Body repair and paint for my 4x4 projects. I have a long wish list that will become purchases for sure. They have many videos on how their products are used and help videos on welding, plasma cutters, painting are a great resource.
Also as many of these videos are made by Extreme 4x4 TV as they endorsed their products (another big resource)

My brother done a cut and fold on his...didn't come out bad. Just make sure everything is sealed or all your hard work will be ruined in a few winters lol....I live in Indiana so maybe 2 here lol

haha.... well, we don't have to worry too much about the "winters" here in Florida. But there is a lot of water around here... I'll definitely caulk everything up real well.

So I've been doing some research on welders and I've got my eye and my craigslist app looking for mig welders that use gas. Looking for miller, Hobart, Or Lincoln to start off.
But I'm a total rookie when it comes to the actual work. I have a couple basic questions, figure this is the thread..
I want my first real project after a bunch of practicing to be a roof rack using like 3/4-1" round tube. Something around that size. Eventually maybe build some bumpers or sliders or something. But I don't know what size welder will do the job.
Is the smaller tubing walled or is it solid? Or either? I have a 100 amp panel in the garage, so I can throw in a 220 setup pretty easily. I just don't want to get something too small that won't penetrate well.
Anyone have a link to a chart with amp to thickness?Any help is much appreciated.
