You lag & jump while you weld: your hand / method isn't smooth enough. Try humming or singing while you weld. Or listen to music with a headset but I like to hear the arc while I'm welding. You could also try a slight 'weave' motion to create a rhythm to your hand work.

I am new to heavy gauge GMAW, been doing body work and sheet metal most of my life. Got a 75/25 cylinder for my personal Hobart rig today. Here is a test piece I was fooling around with today. Any pros have tips let me know. So far I can tell I need more overlap on my stop/starts.

You should teach her to weld stick first. And TIG if you have the gear for it. It's harder to go the other way: MIG to stick. And a good TIG hand will have her gas welding quicker too.

How about instead of criticizing others welds, you post some of yours?

There no quote so I'll just have to assume that you are talking to me. <g>

I am not criticizing anyone's work - the man asked for suggestions and I provided them to the best of my ability. Wasn't that the idea? <g>

Whew; I'm not sure what's happening there. <h>

Running a DC-only rod on AC?
Using rod which has been wet?
Not enough heat / holding too long of an arc?
Welding through paint maybe?
Especially with a less-penetrating rod? Say 6013 rather than 6011.

Sp what Were you doing when this resulted?

This was done with a Shark Welder 17011 MIG 190EN,gas 75-25 .30 wire
Im not as good as Ronin or Meal, or some of the guys here, But "Damn" Im proud of myself for how far Ive gotten in my welding skills. Ronin was bragging awhile back about welding and I thought Im going to pick up welding again, Sick of paying guys to weld on stuff.. I never was good at welding I thought,,but it was me and my junk welders (90amp..lol). started to really ask around and talk to welders sucking in every amount of info I could.. Took many weekends with my neighbor( my neighbor is a certified welder for Haines Air) and did Youtube. Came here alot to look at welds and see what advice was given.. Well Im way better and I can trust my stuff now. I love this not to well known welder it kicks butt for me.. This weld is one of my best..after hours and lots of wire/gas I can get this. To me its a little cold,,could of run a little hotter..but I was focusing on my little eeeeeeeeee's lol

So here im happy to show you guys my weld. The one and only killer one..the rest will be crap from here on out..lol

Now I need to learn how to fab up stuff..

6010's, DCEN with about 90 amps, soak my rods in distilled water prior to welding for max penetration, strike an arc then keep about a 1 inch arc length.

Im only kidding, Theres pics of my welds in my build thread. Im no certified welder, just a garage fab guy who likes to stick stuff together.

Front frame stiffeners

Axle brackets and gussets and stuff. A little spatter but nothin a grinder didnt clean up.
