Good idea making it removable!

Check the tension on the push down **** over roller. Make sure the roller is the same for the wire size you use. Maybe check to tension on the spool of wire itself also. What wire speed are you running at?

How old is the machine? It could be caused by the liner or the top if it's pretty bad.

Is that flux core wire or aluminum wire? Flux core uses the knurled groove on the wire, and aluminum almost requires a spool gun to feed correctly

It looks like you're using a serrated drive roller. With that in mind, I'd be willing to bet the wire is sticking to the tip and your hitting the trigger to "unstick" it. When you hit the trigger the drive roll just winds up the wire in the machine.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen that issue, but I'm sure it's in the hundreds over the last 10 years working as fabrication head.

It also does look like aluminum wire? If so, a spool gun is required per the other posts.

Can the cheap welder I have be the cause of having a hard time getting the puddle to flow and burn into both surfaces but then when I grind the weld down all I see is the seam of the top metal? Like if the welds aren't melting together. I am welding a patch into my roof for a sunroof delete and I'm about to go insane. I'm getting weld-to-patch seam and it isn't even ground flush yet. Suggestions?
