Do you have a non-ground-plane antenna? I'm finding that with this mount, I get a very high reflection/swr rating. I'm considering either a.) making a hood mount instead, or b.) using a non-ground-plane antenna, if it would work.

Mine grounds through the plate on the bottom. That's weird yours has problems. Is your painted?

I've spent some time practicing just welding pieces of scrap together. Maybe an hour in total practicing.

Looks a little cold. Should fuse Into the bottom plate a little better. Not terible for never doing it before though.

Thanks. It was with a Hobart 140 mig, .30 flux I believe.

I had my pops there for tips he said something similar. Lol. I'm still getting used to being in that sweet spot between too close and too far. Just when I kind of got in a groove though, it was done.

Machine and wire may have been a little small for what your welding on. But yeah keep practicing. You'll bet the hang of it. Took me a little bit to get dialed in also.

Mine is painted, but it is sanded off in the appropriate spots for grounding, and I even ran an extra ground wire to it. With the SWR meter hooked up, it's right around 6, and when I bend the antenna away from the jeep, it goes down right away.

Do you have a pic of your setup?
