I made some new shackle hangers to relocate and beef up my setup in the rear and a little ac 225 buzz box I'm gonna weld em on with. Now I know that stick welding is not preffered for thin metal but my idea is if I use some thin (3/32) electrodes to weld a 1/8" backup plate onto the unibody stitch by stich then weld my hangers which are 1/4" to the backup plate with a 1/8th electrode? My question is if that's a good method and whether I should use 6011,6013 or 7014 or any combo of those? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated I'm just fairly new to welding and trying to avoid blowing holes in my frame cuz that's a bad day in the neighborhood.

This is all subject to your welding skills. If it was me, and I HAD to use an ac only stick welder, I would use the 6011 and go real fast. Don't sit in one spot too long or you're gonna punch right through it. Don't take offense to this but, the best bit of advice I can give you is that if you're new to welding, you shouldn't weld suspension components. Find someone who has the experience and have them do it for your own safety.

Thanks man. I'll go with the 6011. I've got a buddy that's been welding for most his life I asked if Hell at least watch and give tips while I do it so if I'm doing something wrong he can help me or take over all together haha.

I need some advice on which welder to get.

I'm a beginner welder decided I want to go with a simple Flux Core welder for my first Welder, 125V. So Should I go Cheap or Entry Level Quality?

My Options:

Cheap:
Chicago Electric 90A Welder <$100

OR

Quality
Hobart 125 EZ Welder ~$350


I could buy 3 Chicago Electrics for the Price on the Hobart. Is it worth it?

This. I weld for a living and although I use Millers at work, my go-to welder in my garage is always my Hobart 190. They are made by the same company that makes Miller and are very good quality. Do yourself a favor and get the Hobart Handler 140. It's a little more cash but, it will give you plenty of room to grow. Also, ditch that flux core BS and get yourself some nice .030-.035 solid wire and a tank of 75/25. You will be glad you did.

Miller has a special going on with the 212 (and a few others)... the 212 was $1878 plus if you spent 250 in Miller accessories (I got a new helmet)you get a $250 rebate. = Free welding helmet.

So over all pretty fair deal if youre looking at a nice Miller. I've used a little lincoln with 75-25 gas and had great results too. So its not all about the money.

I liked that this welder has the ability to run a 40 Lb roll of wire and a full size gas bottle. So It will serve me well for a good long time.
