Can you guys recommend places to buy aluminum online or in Las Vegas? I'm in southern Utah. Apparently my town doesn't have any good places to buy aluminum locally.

Any metal supply place should be able to get it for you.

In Vegas I would call Curtis Steel. I get steel and stuff from them and they carry some aluminum as well.

Has anyone welded new brackets/perches to an 8.8 axle with a 110v MIG welder? Should I use .023 or .035 wire? Or should I take it to a buddy with 220v.....I realllly want to do this myself though...

that's a very important part... I wouldn't risk it... If you have a buddy with a larger welding machine use his.

This is what I do. But it turns out all the parts are very important.

Actually I did finally weld-up my roof rack rails with my 110 and it worked out very well.

yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do. Going to mock up the 8.8 and tack everything in place and then take it over and let him finish the job.

Re-up, dude! It's a jungle out here! LMAO

Got to practice with some aluminum today at work...then patched up a battery box that was hosed using the spool gun...didn't get pics of the box, it had to be done quick, but here's a practice bead I did...

Not too bad considering I have only tried it once before.

Didn't weld today, but cut off a coupon with an oxyfuel torch. That should have been a piece of cake, but I hadn't adjusted my hood, so it kept blinking on me or blacking out. It's the closest I've come to welding so far. Hopefully we'll weld next week. Good news is that they're starting up a second class, so instead of going one day a week, I can come twice a week to get more practice in. I'll do that until I get my own welder, or unless I need to use their plasma cutter.
