alright, I'll try that. One thing that I noticed is that when welding my welder doesn't have that smooth buzzing sound like the videos I watch, it sound more like one of those fire crackers and makes a bunch of popping and the torch feels ruff while welding too. Also, I just had the torch completely rebuilt by snap on, so I know it's not the liner. Could it be the welder that's causing these ugly welds? Wire slipping?

alright, I'll try that. yup, check wire tension and also try to have it so the whip is as straight as possible, any bends may bind the wire.
and keep your tip clean. i use nozzle spray to keep the splatter away.

All the above. Make sure you've got a good ground contact, and slow down. This is a practice scrap, just let it burn in till you get a puddle & then start moving. Try to burn a hole right through the plate, lol. It'll give you a good feel of where the metal is going to let you go.
You're starting to get fairly decent penetration, that's good. Just go slow and keep it moving, you'll get it.

Thanks everyone, I'll check out my ground and make sure the wire isn't slipping tomorrow. I'll also go much slower, Then I'll update with some fresh pics!

All of the above, keep playing with it, once you figure out your settings, tension, and working speed you'll be going at it in no time. How thick is the steel? Give your puddle time to form, then watch what the puddle does. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE....
So I was able to finish the pusher today. Added some triangulation to the wings, just thought it was a weak spot that needed adressing now, rather than later.
Also weighed it. 629 lbs. It's a beast, LOL

No, I don't lick fish.
I used to do do more heavy duty stuff and even know how to stick weld, though I am a bit out of practice at this point. I did weld a bicycle fork yesterday and it was a hoot.

Worked on the pusher some more today, got it almost done, but didn't take pics as I was continuously getting called off to other issues. Got the plastic protector on the bottom, with a cover plate to sandwich it, it came out pretty sweet...then I decided there were a couple areas that needed reinforcement, so I started that, but didn't finish, got one side cut, placed and tacked in, will do the other side tomorrow. Pics will follow. It is looking badass. My boss even came and told me it was killer!

Always nice to hear isn't it? My boss is a good guy over all, but doesn't really get that a "thank you" or "good job" can go a long way sometimes. He called me into the office yesterday, and I'm thinking 'great, what'd I do now?'
