Post 1987 Cherokee -Should I Buy?-

I am planning on buying a 1987 jeep cherokee with 87k on it. black, auto trans, 4x4. and has a 2.5in spacer lift with new 31s on it. has black steel wheels. and a door disconnect kit.

This guy is asking $2000 for it.

My question is, that wether or not it is a good buy or not? I do not have prior jeep knowledge, and have checked around about it risky price. But i am hopeing that some of yall can give me a opinion on it..

-thank you

You can find a stock one for that price, or less and it would be alot newer lol. That one has low miles tho.. maybe motor was changed? Does it look beat up? Have any pics?

ALso check it out, maybe offer him 1800$ Its hard to say with out knowing or seeing the jeep.

87 is one of my favorite year XJs. My Black 87 has a factory Dana 44, as did a lot of 87 year Cherokees. I would check that out to know what your getting. First year of the bad a$$ 4.0 Liter Inline, Aisin AW4, NP231 or NP242, and non disconnect front Dana 30s. Very good year in my opinion. Of my 5 Cherokees(two 84s, one 87, a96 and a99), my old beat up 291,+++ mileage faded Black, still runnin very strong 87 XJ is one of my favorites. And Ive owned 13 XJs over the past ten years.

thanks for responding, but here are a few pictures.. i myself like the jeep, but am not really sure what rear end is in it, it has had motor swap with a newer 4.0. I was also wondering if the motor swap would have any effect on weather or not ill be able to get it inspected... tell me what ya think...

check for rust!
not only did I pay WAY too much for mine, but the body is steadily leaving us to return to the earth and theres nothing I can do about it.

87 is a good year, I would definitely take it but try to talk him down a little on price.

Dependes on condition of the underbody/rear axle/what works and what dosent, if everything works and theres minimal to no rust then yeah itd be worth it but work on that price a bit if you can.
