1996 Cherokee sprot 4.0 Water pumps
Does anybody know where to get a counter clockwise rotation water pump? I have been to every parts house, On line, junk yard, Etc. they all sell the same part for clockwise rotation. contacted Chrysler and they said it has been discontinued. I have no way to re route the belts to use the clockwise rotation water pump. this is probably why so many XJ's over heat because they are selling the wrong water pumps for them.

I just put this pump on my '96 4.0L. It runs counter clockwise. With the smooth side of the serpentine belt against any pulley it will turn ccw.

Mine does also but all the water pumps they keep trying to sell me are for clockwise rotation, do you know where I can get the counter clockwise rotation pump?

Go to Advance Auto and look at CARQUEST #T2211. Any pump that has the impeller blades that match the ones on that pump is the one you want(see the link below and zoom in on the far right photo). My OEM pump has "reverse" cast on it. Didn't check the Gates because the impellers matched up. Reverse rotation means it turns opposite from how the crankshaft turns.

You're not looking hard enough, LOL
If they all sold the wrong one, don't you think everyone would be overheating?

How can something so simple turn into something so complicated?

These are all great leads but all the wrong pumps, look at the rotation, if this were to spin counter clockwise they would just slap the water not push the water through the system. see how the one on the right pushes water and the one on the left slaps the water

You ASKED for a counter-clockwise pump. This link...the first one I originally posted... http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1398&ppt=C0331
...is the EXACT pump I used. I do not overheat. Maybe you need to know what you're looking for. Starting to think the parts guys and the websites aren't the problem here...
Flip the pump 180* as it would be on the motor. Which way is it spinning now?

The only time water pumps were an issue on the I6 was the 258. They came with either v-belt drive or serpentine drive. Therefore 2 pumps.
Over 5 million 4.0s were made and tons on the road today. Water pumps are not discontinued or in short supply.
