Default 2000 Cherokee classic AC issues

Hey guys, has anyone heard of a fix for this? I have a 2000 Cherokee classic and am having problems with my ac staying on. It will run for about 10 min and then shuts off. The blower just blows out hot air. I was told it was the cooling fan so I replaced the fan relay. Also replaced the high pressure switch. I've gone as far as wiring the cooling fan to a switch in the dashboard to power up cooling fan but the compressor still shuts off. The weird thing is is shuts down more often when I'm on the highway! Then I have to literally turn the control switch off, open the windows and drive in the heat for 5 min, then it will turn on again fine, sometimes staying on till I reach destination. This is stressing me out!!!! Can anybody help?

Go to the OEM Technical section there's been a few threads already on this subject that are pretty much the same problems your having. You'll have better luck searching there.

Same thing happened to me. After checking that everything else was good, I checked the gap of the compressor clutch to the pulley. It was too much, so I took the middle nut off and removed one of the spacer shims from the shaft. The spacers looked like washers. I had to place a screw driver between one of the clutch springs and a rivet to get enough tork to remove the nut, but its not on too tight. In my case, I think one of the springs broke or is weak. When the clutch heats up, it loses a bit of the magnetic attraction

Great, I'll try that Big Ang. One more thing, is the nut threaded on regular thread or lefhand thread?
