Just came across this thread, lol. Thanks for the props, Xjeep98classic!

I wanted more power and I wanted it RELIABLY, so I swapped a 4.0L straight six with a 3.0L turbo straight six. Driving around town, staying out of boost, I get better gas mileage. I went down a liter but increased power. The 2JZ can hold well over 700whp with stock internals. I want that power to carry the added weight when I build the armor. Suspension will be forthcoming as well. Mild lift. It is not a race car. Hence the EVO8 turbo, custom built manifold and turbo system and possibly going to install a quick spool valve. I will change the torque converter to be set near the spool rpm to take full advantage of brake torquing.

As for the blasphemy remarks... the single biggest factor was the year worth of research that led me to the conclusion that the auto transmissions in the Supras and Lexus' was more or less the same as the AW4 (Aisin Warner). All made by the same company, all Asian. I replaced an Asian transmission with another Asian transmission that was nearly identical. No blasphemy there. Seeing that the Jeep was built with a Japanese transmission, I also fail to see the blasphemy in putting a Japanese powerplant in front of it. Now as for the Ford power steering reservoir... *shrug*

As for what makes this Jeep special... I agree it isn't just the engine swap. People have been putting 2js in everything under the sun for a while now. MINE IS DIFFERENT. It is the first in a Cherokee, the first AUTO and still 4WD (the engine and transmission plug directly into the Jeep transfer case). EPA told me to suck it and that I can't do this (my Jeep is a '96)... so I am giving them a little bit of the finger and converting it from a japanese spec OBDI engine to a US Spec Supra powerplant that is OBDII (96-98 US Spec Supras), which as far as I have been able to find, has also never been done.
This Jeep will be 49 state legal and look OEM, including OEM gauges that have a built in boost gauge from a diesel cherokee from Romania.

No pods, no riceyness... just pure jeep/toyota/mitsubishi/ford hybrid dna goodness.
Another good thing that has come out of this is a modified AW4 valvebody that increases line pressure and thus torque capacity (for you boosted or stroked guys) as well as much quicker shifts between gears.
Power to the people. So far I have been focusing on the GTR tips and motorcycle Afterburner and Gunner exhaust systems, but the Jeep transmission products as well as tips for 370G/G37 are forthcoming. Welcome to my world at (shameless plug) fringexvo.com.

I don't know. Try these places.

Looks like the input shaft was changed out (from an ax5?) and the bell housing modified. I bet there is a way around that, like a Tacoma housing or something. I'm also assuming the trans in the pics from the second link is an ax15, but I wouldn't know. I am familiar with the auto setup.

People **** talk because they can't actually DO anything other than bolt-ons, from my experience.

For the laymen: The point is RELIABLE HP. Not your 130 HP either.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1033211

From the first post: "Picture the power and reliability of a well built twin turbo Supra coupled with the hard hitting, go anywhere through anything attitude of a Jeep, and you start to get a vehicle that will grab the street by the neck and beat the crap out of it."

I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that coupling the legendary power of a 2J with the awesomeness that is a Jeep somehow = 4 cylinder Honda...but that's your math, not mine.

For your sake I hope you are trolling.

Either way, you made me lol, Donnie K with your amazingly bad ***, 400 HP 4wd Civics. Thanks!
Ahhh, interwebs.

2jz, no ****.
With some overnight parts from Japan, this will decimate.
