but i have a 2wd and go wheeling all the time. here's the thing i have found out that 2wd jeeps dont like, sand, thick mud, hills, loose gravel on hills, and hills that have mud haha. Plus a few big rocks here and there. But in all its still very capable being 2wd...
yeah my 2wd does well on the trails but certain rocks that require that vertical climb seem to cause problems

X2. a locker will get you extremely far...i have a LSD its gotten me into and out of some hairy places. A locker would get me into thicker trouble

Plus i have a good friend who used to do rock crawling for years, and his rig is built... and his experience is if you have a locker in tha back you can go extremely far. we went to a fairly difficult trail that requires 4x4 on most rigs and he just putted along in 2wd.

Dont underestimate 2wd's haha This really makes me want to put a locker in the rear...

My 1st one years ago was an '85 2wd 4dr. I was amazed at what it would go thru or over.
I definitely like my 4wd better though.

My jeep is 2wd, And there is one big advantage to having a 2wd....insurance costs. Insurance on a 4wd jeep is double what it is on a 2wd. Perfect reason to keep a 2wd jeep as your DD.

And yes....my lift does make my jeep look cool

My newest XJ, is a Red 99 4.0 liter Auto 2 wheel drive. It hauls a$$! Ive got a 96 4.0 Liter 5 speed manual that is almost as fast, but not quite cause of the Extra rotating front drive shaft, transfer case, and front diff. The two wheel drive XJs do get better gas mileage I think, Obviously because of less parasitic drivetrain loss, and I think more of their HP/Torque gets to the rear wheels. They do look weird though without a front pumpkin, no 4x4 shift lever, and extended transmission tailshaft housing instead of transfer case.
