Tough call man. 35's require gears and even axles depending on your wheeling.

33's you can squeak by without either.

Then after a year with 35's will you want 37's

Where does it end!!

It doesn't.
OP: Bumpstop and some trimmage, and you will be fine.

IF you figure the axle/wheel overall length and actual shock location at say a 45degree angle. The tire/wheel should have a little bit more travel than the shock does. Because one side of the axle is moving and not the entire axle and the shock location is in further from the wheel. IF the entire axle was moving at the same rate, then yes shock travel would equal tire/wheel travel. Like going in a circle. the outer most part is a larger circumference than the inner part.
Or you could just subtract the extended measurement and the amount of rod showing at level ride height to get your possible down travel. I think he was trying to say he was running 12" travel shocks which could be 3" up and 9" down.

I have the longarm, 12" travel shocks, 4" lift, and 35 set up as well. With hardly any of my front fenders left and about 5" of bumpstop, I'm fairly rub free.

You've obviously never mashed on the right pedal.

Or had traction. One or the other.
