Im planning on doing the same thing but why do you need a new carrier in a d30 and not an 8.25? And what kind of new carrier do you need, is it a specialty part or just another of the same?

The D30 has different carrier for the different gear ratios and 4.10s will not work on a 3.55 carrier. If you have a D35 or a D44 rear you would need a different carrier for them as well.Since those axles are made by Dana/Spicer, that is how they have designed their setup.
The 8.25 is designed and built by Chrysler and it is just how they set theirs up. The only difference in the 8.25 carriers in between the 27 and 29 spline differentials. You can go from 3.07 on a 8.25 all the way to 4.88s with the same carrier.

With the ARB, the locker replaces the carrier as an assembly.

I went to 4 Wheel Parts this week to pick up a set of leaf spring perches and got a quote for having gears installed while I was there. For them to supply all the parts to change to 4.56 gears(except carriers because I have factory 4.10 axles in the garage) and the labor was $1100. That is even with me taking in the axles off of the vehicle so they can work on them on a work bench and not under the vehicle. The labor cost may be different in your area.

i was quoted 500 per axle so 1000 for both plus a little extra for installing the arb. but i think im gunna have tem install the locker. i will be able to do the compressor and run all the electrical myself. i just thought 1g seemed high for labor. when gears are concerned i would rather pay someone to do it right instead of tryin myself and screwing it up. sorry for the thread jack

Swapping gears is a time consuming process because of all the setup procedures. You may have to disassemble and reassemble the whole thing 3 or 4 times to get everything right. But with the right tools and knowledge, yes it can be done in a weekend.
Parts needed:
D30 - new ring and pinion gear set, new carrier for 3.90 and up gearing, new master install kit (bearings, seals, shims).
8.25 - new ring and pinion gear set, new master install kit.
Additional supplies:
several cans of brake cleaner
new gear oil
sealer for the diff cover

yeah... i know how to do it but i dont have the patience to do it or the specialty tools to do it. as much as i dont want to shell out the money to pay someone to do it i think im gunna bite the bullet and let someone else deal with it

Ohhh I meant stock as far as axels. It has a 3 inch lift, I'm gonna cut my fenders and add some sort of a body lift until I can afford better. But you guys didn't answer my question about the axels haha
