i have a delema. i have a 00 cherokee that runs great with ice cold ac (which is a must in florida) but its only 2wd. now i was trying to figure out if it would be more logical to just get another jeep thats 4 wheel, or to get an axle and transfer case? i know a couple people with jeeps that theyre parting out and theyre all over the junkyards.. any input on which would be more reasonable?

Axle, front driveshaft, transfercase/transmission, shorten the rear driveshaft, and lever assembly is all you need. Do the conversion, it will be fun.

I need to come get parts at your advance because the people that work at the ones around me know absolutely nothing about cars or even the parts they sell. Its bad. Haha. Good luck with the conversion.

i think that might be because about a year ago the whole company started hiring people that were more or less just good when talking to customers.. they didnt have to know what they were talking about just a good personality and outgoing i guess.. which in turn makes my life hell because i cant go 30 seconds without someone saying, "hey whats this" or "hey how do i find this". i know your pain lol

Got a 2wd also. I just put a locker in the rear for the time being and it made a huge difference. It is the same number of wheels spinning as you would get with a 4wd with open diffs. But this'll be helpful because i do eventually want to go 4wd.

No point in a conversion...it would be a waste of extra money that you could dump into a 4x4, not to mention time..my advice is sell it for a fair price and get yourself a 4x4. Unless you have the funds for such a project, if so then more power to ya and good luck on the conversion.

my plan is to put a locker in.. a friend of mine put one in his '01 and he said it made all the difference. as for the parts for my conversion to 4 wheel, i have a friend who totalled her's and is getting rid of parts.. so im gonna go make sure the front end parts are still good and see what i can get em for.. should be fun!!

get all he parts you can. And to all those nay sayers, why? i can get screaming deals on parts that are newer/referbished. that are better then going out and buying a 4x4. I can do a conversion for about 500. WITH upgraded parts. Now you'd have to dump 2-3 times more then that to get all the same parts.

to the OP just keep in mind your gonna have to either swap out a tranny or swap the housing and output shaft on your current tranny...

Make sure to post up a write up of how you did it!

Not necessarily unless you desperately need 4wd right now or just have absolutely no idea how to turn a wrench. I shopped around for my XJ for a while and ended up settling on a flawless 98 2wd with an undercarriage that looks like it's never been through a puddle. I would have spent at least $1500 more for a 4wd in this condition and that's only if I was lucky enough to find one near me.

I don't really need 4wd but it could come in handy with camping season approaching. And of course there's the street cred..
