But at the end of the day when you can tell somebody the kind of work you put into and $ it makes you fell crazy good. But it aLl depends on how much you like your MJ/XJ and the kind of time and $ you are willing to put forth.

A 2wd even with an open diff can go alot more places then people think it has ALOT to do with the driver.

This will help you with what a locker is:

U basically proved my point. Minus the cost of ur lift which most of us have to buy; that 1k u spent on parts and then add what ur time is worth and last minute things u could be up to 1500. Bucks. You can buy a stocker all day long for that and less.

It all comes down to u, ur abillities and ur wallet. Everyone will justify their own way of how they do things. That's a given. U will have 50 poeple telling u to wait and 50 poeple telling you to conver it to a 4wd. I gave you my opinion. its all up to you. Me? I would save. But I'm 40 not. 20.lol those days of crawling around on the ground are over.

Whatever u decide will be the right decision because you chose it. Don't sweat what we all say. I applaud those of u who converted an xj. It does give the yeah I did that. And immediatly following that will be the ?... why didn't you just buy a 4x4???. Ill let those guys answer that.lol.

I bought my stock 2wd jeep for $800. My 4.5" lift was a little over $1,000. Just got everything I need to convert to a 4x4 for $400.

I had to park on a somewhat muddied hill recently. I was unable to get up the hill when I was leaving in 2wd. I had to kick in 4wd and it was a breeze.

I would agree with the folks saying to wait. When I bought my xj there were 2 available in my price range a 2wd and a 4wd and I looked at the 2wd (which was much nicer inside and out, though it had higher mileage) and just couldn't bring myself to buy it. Happily the 4wd version ended up being cheaper in the end.
