the jeep also has a 2 in lift kit on it im not sure about the tire size though. i hope this xj is still available when i am ready to buy my jeep. the 5 speed sounds like an awesome option to have.

I'm sure the lift and bigger tires don't help. But I'll try a tune up

I have a 5 speed 2 door, my roommate has a 5 speed Comanche, and some of my friends have a 5 speed 4 door, a 5 speed 2 door, and one automatic 2 door, and all but the MJ are 4x4, and we are converting it now. Plus I see 5 speed XJs on craigslist all the time. So I wouldnt say they're very rare (I say the same about 2 doors too, because I see them all the time). Sure, its not as common as an auto XJ, but far from a rare hard to find option imo.

we are a very big group of jeep XJ and wranglers
there are many wranglers with 5 and 6 speed than the XJ
for every 50 wrangler there is 10 Manual 98-2006
for every 50 XJ there is 1 manual 90-2001

some time when some one saw the interior of my jeep they surprised that its a manual they don't have any idea that there is an 97-01 XJ with 5 speed ..

They are really rare worth every pinny and worth the wait
great MPG nice to drive cant be happier ..

I got lucky with my AX15 five-speed XJ. It was the first XJ I looked at when I was on the hunt for a Cherokee. I happily paid $1200 for it in 2007. The downside was the 328,000 miles on the odometer. I'd say I got my money's worth, though, as yesterday the head gasket finally went at 382,000 miles. Engine swap time!

I remember seeing a mid-90s military XJ with a manual tranny on base when I was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. By military I mean a government-plated commercially-made vehicle.
