87 jeep cherokee lift
I have a 87 jeep Cherokee and want to run 33s. I was wondering could I do a cheap lift like this? I want to put 2.5" shackles In the rear along with 2" blocks and in the front I want to order coil springs from Jc Whitney that give it 3" lift In the front and I also want to put a 1.5" coil spacer In the front to give me a total lift of 4.5" all the way around. My buddy has a Cj 7 and just ran 7" shackles.

You could do that but it won't really work if your goin to wheel it. You'll probly break the rear blocks if your hard enough on it. I would get leaves from a 4x4 S-10 from the bone yard and use all but the bottom helper spring. I did that to mine and it gave me 4.5in out back. There are write ups on here on how to do it. I have 4.5 all around and cut to pinch weld and removed a few inches from the front and only run 31's with no problems. I'm going to 33's soon and will have to cut a lot more when I do.

I took leaf packs from a 4x4 S-10 and cut the ears off the main leaf. Then I removed all but the main leaf on the XJ. Then bolted up all but the shortest helper from the S-10 to the XJ main. Make sure you grind any roughness from the S-10 main after you cut the ears off so it won't dig into the XJ main as you flex it. That was all I did. I've had them in for about 2 years now and no sag at all. I beat them pretty bad too. If you have any more ?'s let me know. Always willing to help out a fellow Jeeper.
You'll have to get new centering pins for an S-10 and grind down to fit in the axle centering hole too. I can't remeber the size but just take a leaf with you and They'll get you the right one. You'll also nee to drill out the main XJ leaf so the S-10 pin will fit thriough it. Sorry I have no pics but it's been a while and I lost them when my Comp crashed a while back. Good luck.

Blocks will work but they tend to break with use and leave your axle flapping in the rear for more possible damage. When they break then you have however big the block worth of play and your u-bolts can break off, then your in big trouble without a rear axle to get you home. I saw it happen one time and would never recommend blocks to anyone . You can get the leaves from most bone yards for about $40.
