Default 95 XJ sport, advice.

Got this jeep for 200 bucks, And yes it runs =D. Its a 2wd 2.5L 5speed, Runs like a top hasnt given me any grief as of yet, and i've been driving it to and from work for 5 days, 40 mile trip one way. Im wheelin and dealin with someone right now on a wrecked 93 4x4, straight6, 5spd. Was wondering if the two years will be compatable, im assuming so, just not certian. Other than that, no major plans for this as of yet, just cosmetic. I dont have any before pics, but i sanded the wheels down and painted them black, repainted the front and rear bumper, grill and light covers. Any advice or tips would be appreicated, its my first jeep and i already love it.Name: Jeep093.jpg

Yeah you could swap it with time and money with no major issues

For the tranny and rear diff, are they the same gear ratio wise between the 2wd and 4wd? Also, anyone know what kind of headache im going to run into swapping out the 2.5 for the 4.0?

I believe gear ratios for the rear diff on an ax-15 5 speed is 3.07 not sure bout the tranny itself tho. Shouldn't be too hard of a swap they're made for the same engine bay and tranny

Good to know for the engine, and as for the Tranny, how do you find out what its equipped with, or were the 2.5 5speeds eq'ed with a ax15 and the 4.0 5speeds with something else?

I'll post some pics of the doner jeep once it gets here, i was told it was rolled over so...

They both are ax 15 unless someone swapped them. The only other five speed was the Peugeot but that was discontinued after mid 89

I'd try to flip it for a profit and get a 4x4 straight six...
the amount of trouble there is in a conversion just wouldnt be worth it personally.

I've done the swap, and personally, I think its worth it. First off, I was already attached to my Jeep as I had driven it daily as a 2wd for two years. Second, doing the swap gives you the ability to ensure everything is done right the first time and its easier to eliminate bad bushings in the suspension, seeing as how you have to pull every piece out, its easier to inspect. If you have the time and the space, go for it! I would caution you though, its not the easiest swap to do. Also, swap everything, rear axle, front axle, engine, trans, transfer case, wiring harnesses, everything. I made so many trips to the JY that they know me by name.

Thats along the lines of what i was thinking too, And also while doing the swap i was going to upgrade some of the suspension parts, i dont need or want a super serious offroader at this point, something in between a rock crawler, and a mud truck =D. It would also give me a chance to learn the vehicle, and how to fix things when they break.

As far as the Turbo goes, do you think a turbo is the right way go, or should i go with a centrifugal supercharger?
