The other thing to consider is that if your lights aren't DOT approved, they aren't legal on road in the USA regardless of local statutes. Many aftermarket parts carry the "for off road use only" tag.

In Alaska We have moose/bear/big game/BigFoot lol, that dart/run around at night, blend into the brush on the side of the road. People hitting big game up here is nothing new.
My lights point more in the ditch then down the road so I can see any thing about to jump out. Lots of ppl up here don't have covers, its to much of a pain to get out just to take covers off our lights.

We use our lights a lot up here to see big game, we are in the dark for about 18 hours a day in the winter. Please don't get me wrong I don't drive around with lights on when other ppl around, just on the back wood roads, or when no one is around. But if you are willing to drive around with me and every time I need lights you can jump out and take them off for me. But the first time its -25/pitch black and to dangerous to get out of the jeep to take the covers off hmm
To the OP If you don't have to use your lights like I do. Then just cover them up, no point on having them uncovered. I think they look good covered, look at Fred/N0AZZ jeep I think his jeep looks good with covers.
Does your light have any US DOT approved stickers or paper that came with it?

I think they do. I'll check tomorrow. I up graded my headlight bulbs to philips xtra brights. Suppose to look hid. Man they are bright as hell. Now people flash there brights at me. My headlights are properly aimed except my passenger side is aiming a little higher than my drivers. Wasnt like this until I put in my h4 upgrades I think the reflector in the headlight is bent up too much. I tried adjusting the headlight but my darn adjuster bolt stripped out. Why chrysler use torx bolts on the adjusters..
