the bigger the better.
Look at the tools you be using and find out how much air they use. If you use a tool that uses alot of air like an air grinder, it'll take alot of air out of the tank. So if you have a small tank, youll have to take breaks for the tank to become full, with that its also possible for the compressor to over heat since it'll be working overtime to try to keep up with the demand

well i have a 60gal twin cylinder compressor and have never had an issue with it. Even when we did our tile job in the house. Ran an air chisel for a good 8hrs a dday for a week.

So far as specs you are looking for, the important thing is the compressor's CFM / SCFM of air it can deliver (not it's maximum PSI) - this shows how much air the compressor can deliver at a certain PSI over a minute's time period. More powerful tools like impact wrenches need higher CFMs to run properly. Tank size is only important for preventing wait periods where the compressor has to run and fill the tank back up. As for tank size, I wouldn't recommend anything under 20 gallons for frequent use with an impact gun/grinder.
Also, buy good quality air tools. Cheap tools use LOTS more air than quality tools. You'd be better off to buy one nice air ratchet than one of those $60 7-piece air tool kits.
