get under it with strong flashlight, LOOK FOR RUST FLOORS! CHSSSIS DOOR BOTTOMS look at all drive train ends and connectios, brakelines rust away even in south
sounds like its got some bigger issues, otherwise he would drive it.see if he will agree to split a state inspection with you...

Also, there are NO cup holders in old cherokees?! haha
so weird...
But the flip out ash tray with joint holder is such a bonus and more than makes up to it.

crazy like a fox
dont lift until you absolutely NEED TO. Jeep Cherokee is most capable American STOCK 4X4 ever made. Besides H1 and is that lifted...No. Do you have the 4hi and 4lock shifter?

That's an excellent deal!
Brakes are NBD, and if you were able to do them yourself, not expensive either (shop time always costs), It looks like it's sagging a bit in the back, so you're probably due for some rear leaf springs, and shocks all around (also inexpensive and easy to do).
I agree, don't lift it. unless you're hitting trails, it doesn't do you much good, get some good knobby tires and call it a day. It is small, but only on the outside. Plus the more stock you keep it, and the more rust free you keep it, it will only go UP in value at this point. they've hit the bottom. IMO, it's going to be worth more the longer you keep it, and if you keep it in good condition.
Here is a video about the transfer case:
