Am I Crazy? Sell XJ for a good deal on TJ rubicon?
All Cherokee biased aside Am I crazy? The gist is I have a 99 cherokee, auto, 108xxx K miles lots of new sensors, cooling system (less a heater core), ignition system, starter, Nate’s 4x4 winch bumper, Quick Discos, 2x6 rockers and plenty of other little things I’m forgetting. d30hp and c8.25 3.5” lift that came on it an a decent amount of lift parts that I’ve been accumulating like RE 3.5 leafs, 4x4Fab shackle relocation brackets, RE adjustable track bar, RE 4.5” coils, Hack N Tap sye, and a few other rod bits....until I got the TJ itch. The 2006 Rubicon is a manual 6spd and has 200k miles and a decently solid frame. needs some work as expected, mostly suspension components, priced out to around $1000 in parts/ lift mods and I do the wrenching and has some maintinence work done to it and is mostly stock minus a snorkle kit. Has a hard top, half doors with glass sliding uppers, dual D44 with lockers. Am I crazy to sell the squared away Xj to take on a th rubicon project !?

2006 TJs were only 2 door. They did have the unlimited version that had a longer wheelbase and slightly more room in the back. I'd love a TJ Rubicon from 2004+ and would jump all over it if I was in a position to do so. I had a 2004 Rubi and loved that Jeep. Of course, the frame issues are real, but if you've checked it out carefully (I'd use a mechanics scope to look at the inside all up and down it) I don't see why you wouldn't love it.

My daily is a 2015 Civic Si so I’d have transportation sorted out in that sense.
My cherokee is a 4door the wrangler a2door standard wheelbase not the unlimited.
Another concern i factor is my cherokee (Massachusetts) is starting to develop some rust in the floor (hole in the passenger foot well) and who knows about the inner unibody channels. The retention of resale on XJ around here is pitiful at best even as well running as mine is with relatively low miles. Where as the rubicon even with higher mileage in fair running state will fetch more than my cherokee if the time came.

I can bee as the same way, but even before I got the. XJ I wanted a tj unlimited and just couldn’t find a clean manual trans, but now that it’s not a daily I wouldn’t mind the shorter wheel base with the storage capacity of an extra lot of clean socks 🙃 just something about the topless life seems awesome
