i'd have to say i like the 97-01 look just a LITTLE bit better, but i cant say i dont want both. i'd love to have my 98 AND find a nice older model to build as well. i do agree the newer models lack that "rugged" look

I went with a '96 for the better interior. IMO, the 97+ look like a Dadge Caravan inside them.

The only thing I want off a 97+ is the mirrors and the front doors. No need for a fixed place vent window.

If I was concerned about looks I'd look into "rice burners"
But I'm a performance type of guy

I agree,84-96 looks alot more tough, I have an 89 myself. The 97-01 look more like a car.

I have the one that takes up the passenger side leg room. It holds cans, glass bottles, and coffee, but doesn't fit a damn soda bottle. That's the only complaint. The 97' console also had the cup holders closer, so it's a little more convenient then rubbing up on the passenger trying to grab your drink.

I like my 01 quite a bit but I will admit that the older style looks pretty nice lifted

personally i have owned both style xjs. I love them both. Im a smaller guy and my 2000 is just perfect for me. fits me like a glove. my buddy is a bit bigger then me and is always *****en when he has to drive it. you sit higher in the newer ones. he drives a 1993 XJ and he likes it.

I have a couple comanches and a couple cherokees. My project Comanche is going to get the late model front clip and probably everything from the newer jeep just because that would be neat. I would never do the swap in an xj. Its a horse a piece. I don't like one style over the other at all.

Someday I will have a Comanche with a 80s XJ waggy grill and headlights. That would get the heads turning!

good more reason for me to do it. i have other comanches that will be unmolested. i just started to think about it after i posted, i have a white interior on the said MJ. I need a front clip anyway so thats probably all its going to get. Wade you ever see a white interior? Mine is the only one I have ever seen.

Depends, I wouldnt want it on mine but I do like the 97+ clips. Personally though I like the chrome grill on my dads 90 over the black one on mine. I am not big on chrome but I do like the grills.
